Digital Migration Conference: 27-29 September 2006

Digital Migration Conference

27, 28 & 29 September 2006

Trade Conferences International is hosting the Digital Migration Conference on the 27, 28 and 29 of September 2006 at Indaba Hotel. This conference will set a platform to make an inquiry on the progress of moving from analogue to digital broadcasting systems. Migrating from analogue to digital will offer viewers a package of screening options. It will increase viewing services, efficient use of and allocation of spectrum, greater variety and faster rates of data transmission.

Expects from communications landscapes will be taking turns addressing these themes; digital technology in South Africa, convergence of technologies, challenges and opportunities within the broadcasting industry, issues related to shifting towards digital technology.

Some of the presenters at this event are:
Nic Bonthuys - General Manager SABC,
Charlene Deacon - Managing Director of Kaya FM,
Frans Lindeque - Sentech, and
Dennis Magaya - Executive Head of Customer Services and applications at Cell C.

The last day of the conference will be dedicated to a workshop facilitated by Danny Moalosi, Project Officer from National Community Radio Forum. The workshop will focus on digital migration policy and regulatory issues.

The workshop will unpack these themes:
Evaluating telecommunication policy and regulatory developments,
Intergraded policy framework for digital radio services, and
Models of digital radio usage for community development.

Highway Africa Conference 2006

The Highway Africa Conference is an annual ICT conference hosted by Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa. This is an event attended by delegates from across the globe to discuss issues relating to Internet governance, ICT policy and media for democracy. This year is the conference will be hosted from September 11 – 15 and will celebrate ten years.

NCRF Projects Officer, Daniel Moalosi will be making a presentation on “Community Media and the Future”. This paper will outline how the sector will adjust to the digital migration environment. This paper will be available as per request after the conference.
